Entertainment - An American Coach in London: NBC Sports Premier League

Although this advert is from a few months ago, I think it is great example of how companies may want to try to introduce something highly thought of in one country to another country that it is not. NBC wanted to, in a way, rebrand football (English football) to the American audience who stereotypically watch their football (NFL). In the advert actor Jason Sudeikis plays the new ‘Coach’ at Tottenham Hotspurs Football Club, he then tries to control the players, but using his NFL knowledge, which provides for a very comical short video. Through the use of this comedy they are able to connect well with the audience, by making the audience laugh, that can grab their attention for longer. The new audience this may generate may cause a trend for people of America to take much more notice of English football. The advert even plays joke to a Tottenham Player at the time Gareth Bale, as the new coach says, who is that pointing at Gareth, even thought at that current time Gareth was one of the most talked about player in football and was soon to be the most expensive player. So even this small joke was allowing NBC to tap in to the social vibe that was going on around big players and then linking it back to the buzz of English football. I believe that this approach to the dedicated NFL American fans can have an effect and through the comedy relation to their loved sport, tempt them into checking out the English football on NBC.
