So the age for being able to legally drive
could be changing from 17 to 18 years of age. This comes from the harsh
stereotype that is placed upon young new drivers being dangerous and immature
on the UK’s roads.
The change in age is a hopeful attempt to make
the roads safer to new drivers and in hope that when they take to the wheel they
may be more mature and sensible. But is this so smart, to mix the age to start
driving with the age to be legal to drink alcohol? This could be a dangerous
mix in its self, not to mention the fact that the change of a year is not going
to make a huge effect in young persons maturity in their life or on the road.
The effect on this in the real world is the
need for young persons that are entering the big wide world are now potentially
stuck with out personal transport. At an age where people begin to become who
they are and start to take up careers, they need to get about. There is no
easier way to get around than a car, it is your own responsibility and freedom.
For example these people needing to travel to work, would now be unable to
drive them self, so there may become a higher demand in the public transport
system. So from this potential change in the law, there could be a knock on
effect and boom in public transport.
