Cars - Lamborghini Gallardo Replacement

The Lamborghini Gallardo replacement, which is thought to be called the Cabrera, has been spotted at the Nurburgring. The new Cabrera is going to be released in what is thought to be the later part of 2014. Lamborghini have been testing the car so they can make checks and developments before putting it into production.
The car has some traits of the Gallardo, it has lightweight carbon fibre and aluminium space-frame structure. The car its self is compared a lot to the Audi R8 with similar dimensions and set up, Audi are also to release an updater R8 sometime next year.
The trend for super cars that anyone who can afford to have can have has been around for years and will remain that way for years to come, is still booming. With many people just admiring the cars, and those who buy them rarely get to use them to their full specification of speed and power, but buy them for there amazing aesthetic qualities. I like the look of the new Cabrera, I think it has that nice Lamborghini stamp on it.

Print Design - Milky PinUps

This post is about a piece of design that I came across on Behance by Jaroslav Wieczorkiewicz for a Milky PinUps 2014 calendar. The calendar features a range of female models wearing milk created outfits. I think that what has been created has a fantastic finish and actually looks really great!
The photos at first appeared to me as if they had been created using CGI, but after reading through the article and looking at the behind the scenes images it appears that all of the milky images were photographed.

As can be seen above, the outfits have been made from milk being poured over the models and then captured by a camera. Several of these shot have been taken and then edited together to make a full outfit. Using this method to create the images gives that very original feel to the images, as an image exactly the same will never be created ever again, this is a one time image.
I really like the finish to this design, i think they have created something very nice and unique, using a range of techniques and image manipulation.

Print Design - FHM Cover 2013

For the FHM December 2013 cover FHM have gone old school to create the background for the Diana Vickers cover. When I first saw the cover I thought that it was just created digitally as magazine covers are these days, but it seem not.
In an article FHM have revealed how they put this months FHM cover together. Artist Ged Palmer was commissioned by FHM to hand paint the entire background from a blank canvas.
It seems that FHM wanted to go back to basics to create something original and different from the conventional Photoshoped covers they are so used to making.  I’m sure that the painted cover was in fact touched up in Photoshop, but it still has a really nice style.

I think that it’s a great touch that they have added and work great with the Diana Vickers’ shoot on the front where she is holding a point can and brush, so it odes appear as if she may have painted it her self. Its nice to see that they are trying something different, well something from a long time ago, it works very nicely.

Entertainment - The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

So the newest edition to the Hunger Games film series was released last week and just like the first film it has taken the worldwide box office by storm. The film nearly managed to make £100 million in its first weekend in the cinemas.
The film became the fourth highest grossing first weekend box office total, just falling behind The Avengers, Iron Man 3 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.
The film also took 8% of its takings from the IMAX theaters. I think this shows a great trend from the larger screened films, as it is currently a big attraction. People go to the cinema to watch something on the “big screen”, so why not watch it on an even bigger screen. I think that there is a big market to further advertise the IMAX screens and what exactly what they are, because I feel that not everyone know, or believes that they are worth that much extra money on top of the regular cinema ticket price.
The production team for the Hunger Games has decided to split the final book in the trilogy into a two-part film, this is a great idea, a great way to make bucket loads of money. It worked perfectly for both Harry Potter and Twilight.
I toughly enjoyed the new The Hunger Games: Catching Fire film and I look forward to the final two films!

Technology - Samsung IOU

A jury in the US have come to the decision that Samsung owe Apple $290m in damages, for copyright infringement on features of the iPhone used on Samsung models. Samsung are likely to appeal the decision so it seems that this battle is not over, and may stretch on through the future. It would seem that in the court hearings Samsung didn't really bring a big argument and in the end this is why the jury ruled against them, maybe they didn't bring a leg to stand on because they were wrong.
These two companies have been at each other’s throats for years and there will be many more years to come, with both companies being forerunners in mobile phone innovation, more so Apple and then Samsung just copying or should I say stealing.
I myself love Apple products, the attention to detail that go into the crafting of their products is just amazing. To think that it would be acceptable for another company to just steal the ideas is not right and it is great to see something may finally be getting done about this.
Mobile phone design is a big market and it is very difficult for companies not to step on one another’s toes, but if you want to stay competitive and ahead of your competitors then you should not be stealing ideas. They need to come up with something new and exciting.

Technology - Sainsbury's goes digital

Sainsbury’s have decided that they will not be taking any orders online for physical entertainment copies for the end of February 2014. They have come to the decision because they believe that the time has passed for the physical copy, it is now the time they would like to sell only digital downloads only.
This follows other companies that offer digital downloads to customers. This for me is a great move by Sainsbury, and is exactly what they need to do if they wish to keep up with competitors. Currently there is a big shift for digital content by the public, with many younger users wanting to get all of the content online, as it is convenient and easy.
People still do like the physical copy of the content, but this can be got in high street retail stores. The online sales should to me at least offer the digital downloads if not only sell them this way.  This to me is a great move for Sainsbury’s, and will only boost their online sales, higher and higher as the years go one.

Entertainment - Kanye West Bound 2

Kanye West has just released his latest music video for Bound 2. The new video is very raunchy to say the least, its stars both Kanye and the mother of his new born child, Kim Kardashian. The video shows them both riding a motorbike with a environment back drop of mountains. It features Kim in no clothes throughout the video, well apart from her shoes. Cleverly worked shadows have been used to make her appear naked, but in actually fact, too the camera she looks like a silhouette throughout most of the close up shots.
As for the need for this in the video I’m not quite sure as too why it is necessary, to parade his girlfriend around the internet barely clothed, and not leaving a lot to the imagination. It also seems that a lot of other people don’t seem to understand either or just straight up hate the video. With Bound 2, Kanye or Kim trending on Twitter/Facebook after the release, a lot of people took to the social media to vent their feelings about the obscure video, saying that it was stupid and rubbish. They also took a disliking to Kim saying she was stupid and shouldn’t be taking all her clothes of for music videos, especially now she is a new mum. Personally I don’t really fully understand the video or why it had to be as it is, but it is their choice and they wanted to show their affection for each other, and if they are comfortable doing so, then I say why not.

Technology - Printable Victoria's Secret Pants

Recently there has been a lot of talk about 3D printers and how they are being used. In the news these stories seem to be negatively based, looking at how people are using them to create weaponry, more specifically guns. But here I have come across an interesting story about a company called Tamicar that are able to 3D print a soft breathable fabric that is usable for clothing such as pants.
A huge company in the underwear business has become interested in this new type of underwear design/creation.  Victoria’s Secret has shown it interest in the 3D printing process earlier this month, as they created a 3D printed outfit for one the models at a show in New York. The company created a set of white “wings” covered in Swarovski crystals and the model wore this with the Victoria’s Secret lingerie. Its still unclear at this stage how close this new line from Victoria’s Secret is away or as to what they will look like or styled, but this could be a big move forward. It has been said that they would be able to create up to 10 millions pairs of underwear a year, this is a phenomenal amount.
With big companies getting on the 3D printing hype like this, who knows who will be next to join in, or even more so what will be created on the printers next.

Technology - Twitter... what a lifesaver!

A new system in the UK has been launched by Twitter called Twitter Alerts. The system is to be used by Police forces and other emergency services, so that they are able to post about critical situations in the future, to prevent further disasters or devastation.  This will even be used to give warning of weather in the even of natural disasters.
The system will work by the user, for example the police, will upload a tweet tagged as “critical” and then post it. This tweet will then be posted so that the subscribers of the twitter account will see it straight away. It will not be displayed as a standard tweet, it will stand out so that it cannot be missed.
To me this just displays the trend for online news, and how the current online generation wants to receive their news and content. Where better to share the information than where they are always checking… social media.
Overall I think this is great, providing the user is following the correct accounts, they will be able to keep up to date with latest news without looking very hard for it, in fact it will be pointed right out to them.
