So the BBC has discovered the activity of users
uploading images of narcotics and advertising them for sale on the Instagram
networking site. Users are attempting to sell these illegal drugs through the
networking site to others users that search them via the hash tags put on the
images. Instagram have since acted on this by blocking the use of certain words
in hash tags, so that users cannot port nor search these. But will this stop it
all together? I think not, I think that these users will find ways around this;
they will use different word and abbreviations. This will be a constant catch
up game between the illegal activity and Instagram.
With crimes these days becoming easier and easier
to commit online, when will there become a force that will crack don on this
activity. The trend for online social networking at this time is huge, and yes
it is very hard to monitor, but I think they need to do better. Things like
this are just not acceptable and should not be able to be posted on such
website, they are for all ages, or even still of for the public that obey the
law.
