A new system in the UK has been launched by
Twitter called Twitter Alerts. The system is to be used by Police forces and
other emergency services, so that they are able to post about critical situations
in the future, to prevent further disasters or devastation. This will even be used to give warning of
weather in the even of natural disasters.
The system will work by the user, for
example the police, will upload a tweet tagged as “critical” and then post it.
This tweet will then be posted so that the subscribers of the twitter account
will see it straight away. It will not be displayed as a standard tweet, it
will stand out so that it cannot be missed.
To me this just displays the trend for
online news, and how the current online generation wants to receive their news
and content. Where better to share the information than where they are always
checking… social media.
Overall I think this is great, providing
the user is following the correct accounts, they will be able to keep up to
date with latest news without looking very hard for it, in fact it will be
pointed right out to them.
