Entertainment - Bafta opens TV awards up to online shows.

Bafta TV awards have now said that online TV series can be nominated for awards, this comes after House of Cards became the first online TV series to be voted for an Emmy award earlier this year. I myself watched House of Cards, and thought it was great. With the ability to watch online, one episode straight after another without having to wait week after week for the next is just amazing. More recently each episode of the final half of the last ever series for Breaking Bad have been added to the Netflix program list, almost straight after its original air to US TV.
I think that the appeal of online TV series will now take a much greater leap forward, with people easily accessing the content online. With these user having the access to online they are much more likely to be able to use social networking sites to discuss and promote online TV they have watched and enjoyed. I think It will also give a chance to potentially some lower budget companies that are not able to get content on to the TV but are much more capable through the use of online TV.
Bafta themselves said that the reason for this change is because of changes with the trend in how people have taken to the ability to watch the online TV and some prefer it this way.
I believe that this recognition for online TV will give the creators of such content a much needed boost. Then following this, a shift in demand from broadcasted TV to online TV.
